Music

Welcome to the St Eugene College Music Program.

Music is a significant part of St Eugene College life, not just for the students who participate in the various music programs, but for the entire school. Participation in Music takes various forms:

Classroom Music

Students in Prep to Year 6 engage in a Music Lesson once a week with a specialist Music teacher.

Students in Year 7 – 8 will study music as part of elective rotations.

Students in Year 9 – 12 have the option to select Music as a subject.

AMEB Music Tutoring is available outside of school hours. Many students can elect to sit the official AMEB exams, gaining qualifications and QCE points.

Choral Music

College choirs are open to all students from Year 2 – 12.  There are no fees for students participating in the choral program.

Music Ensembles

The College runs a range of performance ensembles which students can participate in.  These include Concert Bands, Rock Bands, String Ensembles, Percussion Ensembles, African Drumming Ensembles and more.

Instrumental Music Program

The program offers tuition from Years 1 – 12 on the following instruments (fees apply):

  • Keyboard (from year 1)
  • Guitar (from year 3)
  • Strings – Violin, Viola, Cello & Double Bass (from year 3)
  • Woodwind – Flute, Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone (from year 4)
  • Brass – Trumpet, Trombone, Baritone, Euphonium (from year 4)
  • Percussion (from year 4)

Lessons are conducted during school time on a rotating timetable – which means that students don't miss the same subject each week.  These lessons are offered as small group lessons or individual (private) lessons, if available.

Full details of the program can be found in the Instrumental Music Handbook.
