Vocational Education & Pathways at St Eugene College

At St Eugene College, we are committed to nurturing the whole person by providing purposeful career education and vocational pathways that empower students to transition confidently beyond school. Guided by our Catholic ethos and our college vision — “Enter to learn, dare to grow, leave to serve” — we support each young person to discern their gifts, explore their vocation and make informed choices for work, training and further study.

What Students Can Do

At the expo, students can:

  • Speak directly with industry professionals
  • Ask questions about careers, study, and training
  • Discover local and national opportunities
  • Gain real-world insight into different industries

Career education is embedded from Prep to Year 12. Students progressively build self-awareness, explore opportunities and develop the skills required for future pathways through ageappropriate learning experiences connected to realworld contexts.

Year 10 Career Education

In Year 10, all students undertake a specialised Career Education course, a key transition point within our P–12 pathway model. The course supports students to:

  • Identify strengths, interests and personal goals

  • Explore academic, vocational and applied senior pathways

  • Make informed subject selections aligned with QCAA senior schooling options

  • Develop planning, decision-making and career management skills

This course ensures students enter senior schooling with clarity, confidence and purpose. As part of the program, students also complete a QCAA Short Course in Career Education, gaining a recognised qualification that supports pathway planning and senior subject selection. The course also supports students with university aspirations, including awareness of early offer and Head Start programs, and participation in targeted career, tertiary and transition workshops that build readiness for further study.

St Eugene College provides structured work experience opportunities that support authentic learning and community engagement. Through work experience, students:

  • Participate in real workplace environments

  • Develop employability and communication skills

  • Explore industries and career interests

  • Build confidence, responsibility and local industry connections

Work experience plays a vital role in shaping informed and realistic pathway decisions.

Students may undertake School Based Apprenticeships and Traineeships (SATs) while completing their senior studies. These QCAArecognised pathways enable students to:

  • Combine school, training and paid employment

  • Work towards nationally recognised qualifications

  • Gain valuable industry experience

  • Transition smoothly into employment or further training after school

St Eugene College supports access to external trade and training courses through partnerships with registered training organisations and industry providers. These pathways are aligned with BCE and QCAA requirements and support students pursuing applied and vocational learning options beyond the classroom.

This page will share Pathways and Career newsletters to keep students and families informed about:

  • Career events and pathway opportunities

  • Work experience and industry programs

  • Apprenticeships, traineeships and training options

  • Key dates and postschool planning information

Our commitment to “leave to serve” is expressed through strong partnerships with local businesses, employers and community organisations. These partnerships provide authentic learning opportunities and enable students to contribute meaningfully to the wider community while preparing for future employment and service.

By partnering with St Eugene College, you can:

  • Support young people in meaningful career exploration and service focused learning

  • Offer work experience, apprenticeships, traineeships or workplace learning opportunities

  • Contribute to the formation of skilled, ethical and community minded future employees
